White Mountain Facts |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The White Mountains are one of
Arizona’s most unique, yet hidden treasures. Located
along southeastern edge of the great Colorado Plateau
in Eastern Arizona, its beautiful mountain peaks rise
to heights of eleven thousand feet. Ponderosa pine forests,
aspens, picturesque lakes and mountain wildflowers grace
the alpine landscape. Much of the White Mountains are
part of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Slightly to the North and West, the
dramatic vistas of the Mogollon Rim rise grandiosely above
the forests and picturesque mountain towns of Arizona’s
high country. Rim-side trails offer dramatic views and
deep canyons dropping 2,000 feet in some instances to
the forests below. Further west lie the snow-capped peaks
of the Coconino plateau. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The White Mountains offer many choices
for recreation and fun, including fishing, camping, hiking
the backcountry’s hundreds of miles of trails, mountain
biking, or off-roading on your ATV. For those interested
in immersing themselves in the cultural ambiance of the
area, the White Mountain Apache cultural center and museum
provide the perfect setting. The picturesque towns of
the White Mountains such as Show Low, Snowflake and Heber,
with their pioneer roots also provide an authentic, old-west
feel with rodeos, museums, and old pioneer homesteads
open to visitors. |
